Editing

I was very happy with the end result of our movie. The movie came very easily to me and my partner lee so we really didn't have a hard time planning and shooting the short that we did. We both had the same idea around the way the film should look and feel. While editing the movie we agreed that the film should have no background nose only music from Buckethead to set the change in feel and pace of the movie. Editing, looking back now, the only thing I would maybe even consider changing about the film is the time we had in it, We made certain cut in the final a little too long making the viewer kind of loose the hecticness of the sot before it, also some of the special effects were a little too dramatic causing the view to losse importantness of the shot before as well and maybe toward the end of the film add a small amount of dialect. The movie itself though i am more then satisified with the way that we decided to end our film.

Incubus Warning video analysis

I think the Warning video for the band Incubus was wonderfully constructed. The video begins with a wide-shot of a city with the label of day one from that shot its jump shots into the building to Brandon Boyd *the lead singer* begnining the song, then jumps back out the the city and to different parts of the band such has the dj table of the guitar giving a sense of simultaneous actions, and a the story of another person. After the city shot it jumps to a girl in a building waking up, there is no dialogue in this movie which kinda adds to the story telling feel to this movie. This whole video really relys on the jump shots and the zooming in after the jump shot to add to the intensity and also show the story of different people happening simultaneously. The video is also shot in a sort of blue saturated color which also adds kind of a gloomy feel to the video which was the purpose. The meaning of the song and the way the video was shot made good harmony feeling wise and i really appreciate this style of video

lecture 1

The first lecture in media 160 covered a couple key factors in the web. It spoke of modularity which is plug in capability. This allows media to be viewed by many over the internet. Reproducibility which is being able to reproduce the media product more then once or twice in a different location on the web. We also discussed interactivity which is the ability for the user or of the site to interact with the media on the site. It also spoke about what the internet and media means to todays society, media is a huge structure of society it brings new and information to a wide range of people from all over the world, it also allows free speech and the ability for people to bring up pressing issues such as the dafur is dying web[age we were shown in class. The website was an interactive flash site that allowed users to play as a dafur person and simulated what their life is like bringing up pressing issues. The lecture also covered virtual reality which is the realm of the internet, also interoperability which allows different systems and softwares to interact. The whole lecture was very interesting.

Friday Nights Seminar

Friday during work I was lucky enough to be able to help set up the room for the seminar for the graduate students to show their artwork. The whole set up was very well placed. The seminar hosted about ten different works of art and a very large computer mouse made of styrofoam.  All of the works presented were very nice but my favorite was a graphically designed android woman. The caption below it explained it was an android woman being dismantle to show a symbol of how women art treated or looked at. I found it very amazing how it was made and it really caught my eye. Also the food set up was very nice and the people even nicer. I really enjoyed the seminar and hope others did as well.

Sound of my town

Walking through my town there aren't very vivid and loud sounds such as the city.  Your more likely to hear a subtle rustling of animals such as deer, rabbits, gofers etc. behind a tree or bush and opposed to the honking of a horn or fast passing cars. At night its almost completely silent except for the low hum grasshoppers and what ever nocturnal creatures are within the area. Towards the summer a common sound is the far off voice of children swimming or playing in the parks or skateboarding. Toward the colder months of winter the snow plow is an unwelcome sound do to its obscene occurence during the week. Living upstate is not exactly the most lively of places but when it comes to experiencing the sound of nature its a chart topper.

Resident Evil Five Game Desin

I really enjoy the design of  the new Resident Evil five game. They designed the game to take place in Shanty town,  Africa. They designed the first scene very well. It was composed of many scary monsters and  eerie buildings, they made it so that it was eerie even in the day light. They also designed each boss in the higher levels with high pixelation. Each monster was extremely clear and had a very original power and look. The game designers also made a great choice by adding the team work option throughout the game. Co-Op work was great.

The Dark Night

I decided to watch the latest of the batman movies the "Dark Knight". The movies theme was a kind of dark and shadowy. With out the great framing, lighting and other technical choices this movie wouldn't have been the success it is today. The lighting in the different scenes in the movie gave it a more enhanced drastic feel to it. If the lighting in certain scenes such as the last scene was made on the lighter side and with less shadow the feeling of drama and deireness would have been completely demolished ruining the perception of the scene. The framing also helped a lot with the making of the movie. Well made choices in shot range giving the reader more detail views of the scene or specific object. Also close-ups on characters stress the  emotion in the face letting the reader understand the intensity of the characters feelings. I learned that just framing and lighting alone can make a huge difference in the way the movie is perceived.

Day at the Muesum of Moving Images

Friday trip to the museum of Moving Images was a very pleasant and Interesting trip. It was by far the most interesting museum I have been to in a while. I had a little trouble that day making my way to the museum due to lack of experience with the subway and no knowledge of the queens area. Once I did get to the museum however the tour guide was showing us some interesting first forms of movies such as "peep shows" and the the flip book movies. She also allowed us to make a flip book and showed us many old forms of  television and costumes used from early days. The most interesting part was a still frame sculpture that had stop motioning and when combine with movement made a really cool 3-d animation. I would greatly suggest a visit to the museum.
